History blog ace

(Hi guys, this post is for the my school project ace.)TAN TOCK SENG

In this project, I am asked to research on a renown person, Tan Tock Seng. Surely you have heard of “Tan Tock Seng Hospital” ,well I will be elaborating on the founder of this hospital and his other contributions.

Tan Tock Seng was born in 1798 , Malacca, Malaysia. He was a Hokkien merchant , landowner, entrepreneur and philanthropist. He moved to Singapore at the age of 21 in 1819, and started selling fruits , vegetables , chickens and worked very hard.Being a hardworking and thrifty man, he saved up enough money to open a shop in 1827.He became wealthy through a joint business with J.H Whitehead of Shaw and was one of the richest merchants in Singapore.

In the middle of 18th century, the life for the Asians were miserable Many of them were poor and suffered from diseases such as malaria ,cholera small pox and tuberculosis. The living conditions where the Asians were living was poor. They lived in overcrowded shophouses with poor sanitation, attracting pests that carries  diseases especially in Chinatown ,one of the most crowded area in Singapore. Those who were too sick to work, were forced to beg in the streets. Over time, the streets were too, dirty, with piles of rubbish on the roadside ,with pests like flies and mosquitoes. The sick who were forced to beg on the streets, and die due to malnutrition and diseases with no one to take care of them. This is where Tan Tock Seng comes to the rescue. He decided to build a hospital for the poor, and donated a large sum of money , with the help of his friends supporting him, he managed to construct this hospital. I would classify this contribution as a social impact. It help to improve the health of the poor , but it has a negative effect too. The hospital was usually overcrowded, and this caused a average of tow deaths in that hospital as diseases were spread among the patients , and had poor drainage system .Another contribution of Tan Tock Seng  was to provide money for proper burials of the bodies of the baggers on the streets , he took it upon himself to do this job . This is another example of a social impact.

I feel that a monument that could represent him, is a piano. You see, music makes us happy and relax, like Tan Tock Seng, who brings hope to the poor and joy. Building this hospital, helps the poor from painful and lethal diseases and illness. Songs  and music produced by the piano are a combination of the different keys and rhythms, just like when you tell people of his contributions, it made me happy, knowing that there are such noble people actually loving and sacrificing so much for others .For me, it is music to my ears

From this project, I realized that there are many people out there who actually care for others. From news,i always thought that the world was cruel and selfish , causing wars, riots ,poverty and other environmental issues like global dimming and warming. In my research, I came a cross many  noble people like Tan Tock Seng, this made me realized that I was wrong, there are still people who still care. From this, surprisingly, I began to develop a slight interest in History , my working attitude towards history has changed.Thank you Ms Yeo and Mrs Tan, for making this possible.

What a week!

Hi guys, sorry that i have not been posting any new posts in  my blog.Well this week was a rather tough week, i received terrible news that my projects day group did not make it into the semi-finals.This wasn't such a great blow to me, as i knew that this would happen. Our group did not manage to complete our presentation due to lack of time.We did quite a good job in our powerpoint slides ,that's no doubt about that. Well i think that my group should improve in our presentation skills and time schedule.Well on wednesday, the whole of Secondary 1 took an english narrative writing , this was the first time i wasn't so worried about the test.I should be able to do better than what i achieved in primary school.I had a few problems with my schedule.I was so afraid that my grades would fall due to my CCA,softball. We had three training each week!Isn't that tough!Well i should be counted lucky though as some of my classmates that are in track and field has four trainings each week!I feel very troubled by this matter.I just have to put in more effort in my work. The environment is not doing very well too, apparently, i guess people in the world don't care about the planet at all.No matter how many warnings environmentalists have given.I really hope the world would wake up and change.I will never be give up on my dream to make the world a better place. But sometime's i feel that the world don't care about Gaia at all.I feel so tired repeating "save the planet!Don't give up!".It made me to develop the idea that we can't do this.Let's save the Earth guys, have hope in our hearts.

Late post!Sorry!

Hi guys, sorry about the late post, i was rather busy lately, well i will be talking about my weekends,it was a rather interesting one indeed. On friday, my school took us to Victoria Theatre to view a drama show on the founder of our school,Tan Kah Kee, it was one of the  best performance i have ever seen, i was really surprised that i didn't fell asleep, well probably because i was watching it with my friends thus the mood was rather different more relaxed and festive. On Saturday morning, i went for weekly lessons called"IGenius" it was really fun, i haven't been there for quite a while, though we switched trainer, it was still rather fun as the topic for that lesson was about my favourite Scientist ,Albert Einstein! We went on talking about his life ,discoveries and attitudes, like his groundbreaking discovery that proved  Isaac Newton wrong! That we were actually orbiting around the Sun, not because it exerts a strong gravitational pull on the planets, but because it occupies a big space, his theory could be proven by a solar eclipse as his theory stated that when light comes near an object that has a big space, it is bent, though he was not given the chance to prove his theory as unluckily , clouds covered up the sky, causing him to miss the chance to prove his theory. He stood strong, after 4 tests, his theory was proven right. We should be like him, having that positive attitude towards life and thus made him into a great Scientist. We could be like him, if we are willing to try, applying his attitude of saving the planet, not giving up, always have  hope in our hearts, that one day, we pray, that we would wake up and change. It's not too late but time's running out.
