Projects day-The journey so far.

Hi guys. Yesterday, i just finished my group's presentation of my project in the Finals, Global dimming. Now i can finally heave a sigh of relief, for I do not have to stay up till hours like 2 o clock for this project. Howver, it has been an enjoyable journey throughout this year’s project’s day. My group members consists of weifan, Sheng yao and Joel. Our project is mainly on educating the public about this crisis, global dimming and thus create a resource package to help our audience understand it more easily. We have created a website, a flash game, 4 posters , 2 bookmarks and worksheets. Pretty good progress right? I know. But there’s much more in just getting a grade for our IS. Project’s day taught me how to organize my time properly and make me a me more responsible person;) Projects day made the bonding between my group members and I more strong, We have had fun and at the same time, working hard. I am very glad my group made it to Finals as this year is my first time doing so. It shows me hardwork does pay off. I’m looking forward to next year’s projects day .

Softball Tournaments-More than meet the eye.

Hi everyone. Now i would like to talk more on my CCA, and its current achivements:) I am from softball. Many might think softball is somewhat "soft" ,but ironically its not. Its as hard as a rock and I’m not exaggerating. In the previous term, Hwa Chong took part in the National C-div softball competition. And all in all, it as an amazing adventure for me. We were up against schools like Temasek ,Passiris , Monfort and St. Gabriels Secondary and many more. We were in a hot streak and was not defeated even after & games. We sailed passed the preliminary rounds smoothly and even so at the quarter finals. However, we were knocked out in the semi-finals by Catholic High. WE CAME IN 3rd in SINGAPORE. Nevertheless, we managed to beat Raffles Instituition, who had 9 DSAs for softball but HWA CHONG has NONE. We proved to those ‘power Houses” like Catholic, ACS and RI that we do not need DSAs to be able to get into the top 4. We proved to them as long as you have determination and teamwork, you are bound to succeed, academically ,socially , athletically and probably in the aspects of life. To me, softball ain't just about medals and asll, its more than meets the eye.Softball has taught me tremendous valuable lessons in life, such as friendship and sportsmanship.

Emily of Emerald hill Analysis

Hi again everyone, let me continue about Emily of Emerald hill. Lets talk about:
Harsh Childhood(EMILY)
· Callous relatives: “One day the auntie I was living with called me and said to me, ‘On Friday you are going to be married.’… And that Friday I was married!”
· ‘We took you out of the gutter, when your mother threw you away.”

· An abandoned child:
· “I was an orphan from a poor family” –Page 9
· “She threw me away when I was small; she went a bit crazy when my father took a sing-song girl as his second wife.” –Page 10
· “My mother couldn’t be bothered when my father died. I left school and I stayed with one relative or another.” –Page 10
· “When my father died, my mother went away and left me behind. I remember I was in her room and she came in, started packing up her clothes.” –Page 44
· ’Why am I so unlucky, I don’t have a son to take care of me? I only have a useless girl like you.” –Page 44
· “I lived with one relative or another, doing house-work and kitchen work.” –Page 44

How her childhood shaped her views:
· Because of the uninvolved parents that she had during her childhood, she was molded into a power hungry woman who will even go to the extreme to get what she wants.
· Emily wanted to prove that she was significant and went on a quest for affirmation, emotional security and a coherent sense of identity and love.
· Low tolerance and very demanding
· High expectations, little emotional warmth towards Richard
· Domineering and conniving
· She learnt from her childhood that a girl has no power and no value in a house except of that which a man gives her. In order to gain power and not be a “useless girl”, she needs to cause other people to rely and depend on her. She would need to “wrap them, bind them in the web of providing”- Page 45.
· Did things for family not out of love but for the need to have self-worth, control and to be powerful so that her life can be meaningful.
· “reassured that her life has some significance, that no one is going to throw her back into the gutter.” Page 45
With this important background of hers, you now know why she craves so much for respect, love and family...

Emily of Emarald Hill book Introduction

Hi everyone. its been ages since i've posted something on my blog! Recently, i have read a book called " Emily Of Emerald Hill by Stella kon" And i would like to do a book review on it, as well as analyzing it. This book is about this woman, Emily who had a tragic background, married a Rich man, Gan Joo Kheong. She gave birth to 4 children- Richard, Doris, Edward and Charles. After she joined the Gan household, she wanted to become a domineering wife and mother. Hence this story is about her conquest for power and status-
To be a matriarch of the family. However, Later in the story tragedy struck her life again and again. Finally, at the end of the play. Though Emily had gotten the whole House. She was left alone in that big old house, Emerald hill, with no one to love and no one to be loved.
